We get to know your rug, assess its condition, and explain a plan suited to its fibers, dyes, and construction—from pickup through delivery.
What happens to your rug
- Remove loose dirt and dust by shaking or blowing when suitable.
- If the rug’s materials and condition permit it, consider a fuller water wash to release embedded soil.
- Hand wash with cleaning solutions and water appropriate for the rug.
- Dry using a method suited to its structure and dyes; some pieces require a slower process.
- Inspect the rug after cleaning and address remaining spots where safely possible.
- Discuss any needed repairs or retouching, such as sewing, patching, reweaving, color work, or fringe repair. Additional work is quoted separately.

Depending on the rug, cleaning may include removing loose grit, washing to address deeper soil, careful hand work on affected areas, thorough rinsing, and controlled drying. We select cleaning products and techniques for the particular rug rather than treating every wool piece the same way.

We begin by examining the rug’s fibers, construction, colors, worn areas, and any earlier restoration. If its age or origin is uncertain, we can discuss the characteristics we observe. An exact age or origin may require a separate appraisal.
Cleaning can involve careful removal of loose soil and a method selected for the individual rug. Some pieces may be suitable for washing; others need a more limited approach. We also pay close attention to drying, since fragile fibers and unstable dyes can be affected by the wrong process.
If we find rips, missing areas, unraveling edges, or discoloration, we can discuss repair or restoration separately. We’ll explain what work appears appropriate and provide an estimate before proceeding. The achievable result depends on the rug’s condition.
